Riverbend Industries (RBI) is a private family-owned portfolio holding company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The portfolio is primarily comprised of several small, independently operated, previously family-run businesses in the light manufacturing and distribution sectors. The portfolio is a long-term holder of its investments/assets and plans to grow both organically and through acquisitions into the foreseeable future.

Summary

The Staff Accountant will perform a variety of accounting tasks including daily transactions, financial reporting tasks, data analysis, inventory-related projects, and tasks related to the implementation of a new ERP system. Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will assist in every area of finance within the company.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads by example with a Safety First mindset in every task
  • Scrutinizes the details of transactions to ensure accuracy
  • Assists with analyzing the costs related to manufacturing on a per job and overall basis
  • Prepares customer invoices daily after verifying the accuracy of all data related to the transaction including serial numbers, freight tracking and charges
  • Communicates with customers regarding open invoices and aged receivables
  • Coordinates the proper accounting for drop shipments
  • Confirms all material receipts with QA and enters quantities into ERP
  • Matches vendor invoices to receiving documents and enters into ERP
  • Conducts weekly AP check runs
  • Enters customer payments from the bank lockbox reports
  • Leads data migration from current ERP to new NetSuite system. This includes downloading data, manipulating data in excel, and then verifying data after upload to new system
  • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and address ERP transition issues
  • Follows GAAP in preparing workpapers and calculations for the monthly financial statements
  • Assists in the preparation of the 5 Year Strategic Plan and Budget
  • Assists in the preparation of the monthly forecast
  • Prepares schedules and other analysis of manufacturing costs
  • Collaborates with the team on various projects and operations within the company
  • Assists with inventory management including reconciling cycle counts and annual physical counts
  • Resolves discrepancies uncovered in analyzing transactions
  • Desires to own the assigned tasks with a future goal of training others and advancing within the organization
  • Demonstrates the highest caliber of integrity at all times
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Strong Excel knowledge including pivot tables, lookups, etc.

Preferred

  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus
  • Experience with AP and AR a plus
  • Experience with ERP systems a plus
  • Exposure to manufacturing a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods
