Position Overview 

This position plays a crucial role in efficiently managing materials within a warehouse and production facility. The Material Handler is responsible for tracking and scheduling jobs through the moving, storing, and retrieving of material.  

The Material Handler must have a working knowledge of the use and safety of forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and hand trucks used to transport materials to and from loading docks, storage areas, or workstations. The Material Handler must be able to load and unload trucks, sort and stack materials, label, and scan inventory, and perform basic quality checks. This position requires a strong attention to detail.

Essential Job Functions?? 

  • Assist with receiving duties and positioning parts into their designated location. May require the transport of parts to or from production and warehouse facilities.  
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain forklift license (onsite training available).  
  • Pull parts per Bill of Material, engineering drawing of subassembly, or pick list to accumulate the required part(s) necessary to build the designated product. 
  • Load and move material onto pallet, rack, or shelf and into designated area by hand, forklift, overhead crane, or electric hoist with precision and care. 
  • Secure lifting attachment to material when transporting pallets to destination. 
  • Ensure all products have proper identification prior to moving between processes including to or from the warehouse area. Product must include one of the following forms of identification including job or sales order, bill of material, routing sheet, Kanban card, placard with part number noting product etc.  
  • Keep all material handling equipment in optimal condition by performing regular daily inspections. Report on maintenance issues associated with the equipment. 
  • Participate in maintaining a high-quality manufacturing environment.  
  • Demonstrate excellence by adhering to all manufacturing policies, processes, and guideline standards i.e., proper PPE use and maintaining OSHA safety requirements, part handling, sound equipment set-ups, daily equipment PM and 5S.  
  • Contribute suggestions that will improve products, and processes which in turn deliver quality and production. 
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation neatly and accurately. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

 Educational and Experience Requirements 

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Valid Driver’s License. 
  • Must have a history of being punctual and arriving to work on time.  
  • Prior experience with material handling in a manufacturing environment is a must.  
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to change direction as needed to address urgent situations. 
  • Self-motivated, willing to accept responsibility for daily material handling tasks, and follow through.  
  • Must be accurate, possess keen attention to detail, and proactive in pointing out potential issues. 

Work Environment/Physical Demands 

  • Willing and able to raise and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds.  
  • Willing and able to walk, stand, stoop, sit and carry material daily on even terrain. 
  • Willing and able to stand for extended periods of time.  
  • Willing and able to work outside in harsh weather conditions and/or in manufacturing/warehouse environments with varying temperatures. 
  • Willing to work alone a high percentage of the time. Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company policy. 
  • Willing and able to work unscheduled overtime. 
  • Willing to work in a manufacturing environment where noise levels can be high.
